primal chair competition

Most people imagine the forest as a peaceful oasis where we can find inner peace. The rustling of leaves, the singing of birds and the smell of the forest calm us down and make us happy. However, we wonder if a carefully designed piece of nature in the form of wood can conjure a feeling of home and connection with nature?

The Wood Festival is announcing a competition for the design of a wooden chair as a tribute to the Kočevo primeval forest. The goal is to design a functional and ergonomically designed chair, which, in addition to its basic utility, will also make the user aware of the importance of harmonious coexistence between man and nature.

Wood is a valuable raw material that we have in abundance, but yet it is too often taken for granted and therefore underutilized. With this competition, we want to encourage the sustainable, economical and high-quality use of wood in everyday life.

The purpose of the competition is not only to design the product itself, but also to bring the story to the final product, which is made with modern tools and ready for wider distribution. So far, more than 500 designers from 60 different countries around the world have participated in the competition. The three winning proposals selected by the panel receive pre-production prototypes as prizes. These prototypes are initially presented during the festival and highlighted in the media and on other partner platforms. The creation of a prototype gives the designer the opportunity to take a further step that represents the actual potential for the market establishment of the product.
